NOTES |
|
Lisbon is both historic and up-to-date with the latest cosmopolitan trends in leisure, fashion, arts, and cuisine. Its charm results from this fusion of modernity and tradition. In this Lisbon Old City I + II tour, you will be able to discover Lisbon’s cathedral, one of the capital’s flagship buildings due to its historic, religious, and architectural value; the church/monastery of São Vicente de Fora, one of the largest and most important religious monuments in Lisbon; and the Panteão Nacional, a National monument which serves as the final resting place of eminent figures that shaped Portuguese history and culture. This tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Alfama, one of the oldest and most genuine neighbourhoods of the capital, with its characteristic narrow, steep and colourful streets (perfect for touring on a tuk tuk) with an atmosphere that will make it seem that you’re in a small village in the middle of the city.
In addition, you’ll also explore Chiado, a historic neighbourhood that rose from the ashes after a fire that broke out in one of its buildings in August 1988 and is now one of the most commercial and cosmopolitan areas of Lisbon; Luís Vaz de Camões square, in honour of the author of Os Lusíadas, one of the most important works in Lusophone literature; Bica street and its neighbourhood, one of the city’s most picturesque areas, characterised by the funicular that runs through it since 1892; the Estrela basilica, classified as Cultural Heritage; and the São Roque church, one of the few buildings in Lisbon to have survived the great 1755 earthquake, as well as being the first Jesuit church in Portugal and one of the first in the whole world.
Sprinkled among all these monuments, you’ll have the opportunity to take a breath and enjoy the unparalleled views that all the viewpoints offer.
Gather up to six friends or relatives and come with us to enjoy Lisbon. Discover the secrets of this centuries-old city in this Lisbon Old City I + II tuk tuk tour. You’ll feel like a true inhabitant of Lisbon in no time.
