Besides being known for its deep connection to the sea, A Coruña is also known as the “crystal city”. During the start of this Premium Tour, you’ll find out why when you look upon the Marine Galleries. These buildings, constructed in the 19th century, have a façade with only windows made from glass, making it seem like their made entirely from crystal. After appreciating the craftsmanship, you’ll head to María Pita Square. Here you can find a statue of the famous heroine, the Town Hall and several bars, restaurants and cafés. Next, you’ll head to the 16th-century Castle of San Antón, home to the Archaeological and Historical Museum.
After passing by the modern Control Tower, the ancient City Walls, and the refreshing seafront, the first stop will be at the Tower of Hercules (if you depart from the Cruise Terminal or the Tuk Experience Base). This historical monument was built in the 2nd century by the Romans and is the oldest lighthouse still in use. After taking some memorable pictures, the journey will resume towards Orzán and Riazor Beaches, which, besides being a cool place to relax, are also associated with Picasso.
Watch as the Riazor football stadium stands proud, home to Deportivo La Coruña. The octopus monument, where you’ll have the opportunity to stop and admire the view, and the modern Millennium sculpture mark the way to Pontevedra Square, followed by Lugo Square, where urban life buzzes with vibrant activity. Finally, on the way back to the cruise terminal or Tuk Experience Base, you’ll admire the Méndez Nuñez Gardens, the historic Banco Santander building and the Obelisk, a popular meeting point in the city.
So, what do you think? Book your tour now and discover a Coruña in a comfortable and fun way while getting to know all about the places you see with the help of a free audio guide. If you book your tour starting at the Tower of Hercules, the itinerary will unfold from then on. The only difference will be a stop at the Castle of San Antón.
